Rally suggestions.......

Hi all

Does anyone know of a steam show/rally in the Herts/Cambridge/Essex area that is likely to take a late booking????

Having just finished my 6" engine, bought a tow-car, trailer and all associated gubbins, i am finidng all the shows i was hoping to sneak into are fully or over booked.

Old Warden, Barleylands even GDSF are full, a lot of my preferred ralllies have had this years event so i missed them*cry.

I have sent out many emails but either not getting any response or "try again next year"

I'm not road taxed yet so i cant even test drive her as the garden's not big enough:o

Any ideas???

Dave

ps, Is it normal to have to practically beg to get into the GDSF?? I spoke to them today and was told to write back in December with a formal request, full details AND photos of the engine for the possibility of getting an application form for 2011, i was not very impressed.

Dave,

This is a very long way for you to go but its the best model only rally in my opinion, went for the first time last year and it was brilliant

they want to see the engine, they can be picky with what engines attend as they have more than enough people apply each year.

I would have thought you would be accepted next year, as its a different model from the norm.

That was a very good show, plenty of nice long, private, tarmac roads to play on :)

Thanks for that, it is a bit far i'm afraid. The whole setup, engine, trailer, towcar etc is untested as it is so i was looking for local, familiar shows in case it all goes pear-shaped for one reason or another :o

Re the GDSF, ok i understand now, they were a bit blunt on the phone though:(

Stick a washing machine motor on the front of the 6" & GDSF will fall over themselves to have you there!

Have you tried the Lincoln Rally- 21st & 22nd August, held on the Lincolnshire Showground site ?. A great turn out of full size and often around 100 miniatures.

Link here:- http://www.lsvr.org/

Chris

Dave, what about Haynes Tractor rally 25th & 26th Sep the weekend after Old Warden ?
You would be able to take it there, and I could get you a form, but it is on a stubble field.

Any help or details, forms etc would be much appreciated, is there a web page? I did a quick search but came up empty. Is there much steam there? Its not a rally i've heard of.

Once again, thanks

Haynes is not a steam rally, it's a vintage tractor rally.
There is normally 3 full size engines and some minitures.
Yes there is a web site, it's http://www.ovtc.org.uk/
I will PM you the chairman's phone no if you are intrested.

I have been on the GDSF waiting list since seeing Brian at the working minature section in 2007, i speak with him each year on site to get an update and last year i was told that it would not be 2010 but maybe 2011.

I will see you there Dave. It may be a bit for but how about Kettering vintage rally http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cranfordrally/ 25th & 26th SEPTEMBER 2010.

davek0974 17th August 2010 06:25 PM

Does anyone do Amberley??

I have a chance if i'm quick to maybe get my engine in, i've been there and it will only be my 2nd rally.

I hear its all concrete hardstanding so no tents which means sleeping in the landrover, not worried much about that as its big enough.

Any views???

Dave

took the lorries a few years ago... LOTS of roads to run about on.... when you line up for the parade get in early and get on the flat or else the make you wait on quite a steep down hill!!
