London brighton commercial run 2010

I hope that Mr Bishop didn't get as wet as I did!

Looks like Joe and Danny could do with some window wipers!!

Earl Kitchener 3rd May 2010 08:56 AM

At least they had screens unlike Mr Jones! For the record it threw it down without a break at Brighton from soon after ten - when it changed from drizzle - until all had arrived. It was a horrible day throughout the run and well done to all who made it including the Orange!

I am pleased it got there.

Spoke to Joe today, and he said he did the Run in 4 hours, which is pretty good going.

Sadly it broke down on the finish line just ahead of the Bishop Foden and had to be pushed to the side where it remained. But considering its purpose as a parade promotion vehicle getting to Madeira Drive was maybe the achievement of the day.

Isn't it just a mini with a silly body? I recall looking at it at the Nat Motor Museum when we used to go to the autojumbles

steamy1 3rd May 2010 09:38 PM

I think about 4 or 5 Oranges were built for Outpsan for advertising purposes.

You are right they were based on Mini mechanicals.

Had it ran out of juice?

I've done the London to Brighton quite a few times now, and I can honestly say that Sunday was by far the wetest I've ever experienced. Leaving Crystal Palace in torrential rain was enough to test anyones committment to this wonderful cause.

Well done to all those who came to watch!

Lets hope next year will have wonderful weather to help celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

Well done Neil, I understand Mr Jones has been celebrating at long last and Mrs Jones has bought a tub of silver polish !! Must be because there were no Sentinels to show the Fodens up this year !!!

The Mover 4th May 2010 02:42 PM

Yes, he's been trying to get a first place for a number of years now. What with the weather, the Foden was looking a little dirty to say the least. Perhaps next year, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary a few more steamers will attend....too far for you I guess?

General C.R Dewet 4th May 2010 03:22 PM

Maybe, can't have you lot winning it 2 years in a row !!

Certainly a few of them about.

There used to be one in Brixham when I was younger

It was indeed very wet, most of my photos were taken from inside my Car Boot and I still got wet!

My camera packed up with the wet towards the end but fortunately it has dried out OK at Home.

I was expecting a big Scammell entry but this was the only one that I saw.

Fodens were better represented though.

Who needs Scammell's when you've got all those nice Fodens !! , shame about the wet-thanks any way.

Special mention for the Royal College of Science folk who did the whole run on their open cab Dennis Fire Engine! For information Steamy's pix reflect conditions throughout the run as far as one can tell. Neil the Morris was a delight - pity all my pix of it were ruined by the rain on the lens. By that point every cloth in the bag was soaked and I simply had to give up.

There were a few entries which were certainly open to the elements! Our little Morris Bullnose traveller's van behaved herself from start to finish that said we both got rather soaked. The 2010 programme was ruined in about a minute of it being "safely" stored within the cab at Crystal Palace. A memorable trip!!

8_10 Brass Cleaner 4th May 2010 08:54 PM

Any pics of the Bullnose?

I'll dig a photo off the camera which shows her down at Brighton. Will post as soon as I can.

steamy1 7th May 2010 10:04 AM

I was not able to Photograph the Bullnose as it came along in a group but here are some of the others.
