PA, PB?
A bird at school (that I didnt manage to hook up with) dad had a totally original PB in the shed at home, it had a ford 10 engine in it, It was blue and didnt want much work to sort it. Would have been perfect for VSCC light car trials. |
pa in red with wire wheels, i'll hunt out a pic. got two and built into one, from strubby raf base and one from a chicken run near lincoln near my great grans. handles like the mgf! and probably goes better! got the standard engine but it has been skimmed and ally higher comp pistons.

It can't be as bad as a MGF they had to modify there suspension for the MG challenge to stop them getting lapped by MG Midgets.
|
At the Dorset steam wagon special in 1994 there were at least 12 different makes on display
|
I will be there tomorrow
Was lion there anywhere?? Mudlid |
Yes, I'm told it was.

How many engines has list brain got down there roughly?

Dave, give the guy some respect, his name is Michael List-Brain. He has a large collection and museum, most engines are pretty interesting and it's good of him to open up his premises for those who want a nose around. Some of you guys may not like the guy as you may not like me or anyone else, but he's been responsible for bringing many engines and some very rare ones at that back to this country, helped increase the value of most engines in this country and in my dealings with him been entirely honourable in his dealings. At least call him Michael or Mr. It keeps things civil and polite. SG |
Went down today, and had a very pleasant time. How many engines?? Goodness knows, as difficult to count all the derilicts in the barn now it's all fenced off.
Regarding the above post, respect and courtesy cost nothing, something sadly forgotten by a lot of people these days. |

I don't know the chap, and sorry I asked the question, I won't bother in future! Everyone around me are known by there last names, Garner, Huntbach, Tomo etc, I have respect for most. In future if you have a problem please pm me and mention it to me, I will gladly change it, no need to write a patronising message like this. Hope I am not offending you but I am offended by you! Just a little thought for others feelings as you say about my post. Dave |

"Has there ever been a line up of 6 different makes of steam wagon before?"
We had 8 or 9 different (depends if you consider Jim Calders Bread Van a Wagon or not) makers at Kemble a few years back, and I believe Dorset had 12 for their Wagon year. Looked a fantastic day at Prestons though. I will have to get there one year. |

David and I travelled down to Preston Services on Sunday. It has become a highlight of the Christmas holidaysmeeting so many like minded people in such a great enviroment. Michael has a superb collection of all things steam and it is a pleasure on his open days to be allowed to look around and explore.
his oast house with his stationary engines, this year was extremely interesting as it was out of the cold, bitter wind. |
amusement value

Adam, did you give the Wallis roller a good look-see? I thought it was rather lovely! |
Not seen the Paxman before, where did that come from ?
|
Paxman
Really spooky! I only recentley came across this forum. When I introduced myself I mentioned this engines sister Paxman KE 2701. I would love to know where she is now. I was aware of her stable mate KE 2700 but these are the first pictures I have seen. Fantastic takes me back a long way. Hopefully some of you guys could fill me in on some history
Cheers Grahame |

I'm amazed to see the little Wallis Oil Bath 'The Viper' still there. I went up to buy that two years ago and then changed my mind at the last minute and bought Iron Ada instead! I thought it would have gone by now.
|
It has sold, think it was to an american chap, Shifty or his dad might be able to tell you more.
|
I thought it was great

That's an interesting wear pattern on the strakes of the mostly-missing Marshall agri.

i've only just heard of Prestons since joing this forum - i presume now it is Prestons in Kent and nothing to do with RIchard Preston of Prestons of Potto/Lighting II fame.
great set of photos - i really hope Dorset do a steam wagon special again. |

So as you rightly say not Prestons of Potto (Or Prestons Garage in Writtle!) Hope that clears it up hehe |
