Nemeth Engineering Open Day & Vintage Gathering

Clear skies almost made the trek down the M6/M5 enjoyable, but the destination was certainly worth it. http://www.joenemethengineeringltd.com/

A nice relaxed gathering with a selection of exhibits to see in all the usual categories, including a display of radio controlled aircraft buzzing around the sky. There were two portable railways; the larger being 2ft gauge, whilst the smallest was 10-1/4" gauge.

In addition to these, it was also possible to see in the company's workshop at some of their current projects:

Before being accused of confusing this for a railway forum, there was of course also a nice selection of road steam engines as well:

I particularly liked the elderly Aveling roller, it making a nice change to see an Aveling in something other than shades of green!

There were even a number of T-Talk forum members wandering around to say hello to.

...But I can't help feeling it might be best not to enquire about what it was the owner of the poor tractor had done to annoy their fellow exhibitors! *cry

Is the old Aveling roller - 2018/NR13, second oldest listed in TER - still owned by Diccon Pridie from Bristol? I last saw it at one of the Bristol Docks rallies in the nineties.

Indeed it is...

I understand it doesn't attend many events, very nice to see.

Possibly... :o

I haven't owned a true pink shirt for many years, I think the colour suits Mr. Collidge so much better than it does me! ;)

This one?...

I think I totted up 5 full size road engines, plus half a dozen or so little 'uns.

Whoops, sorry.
Just re-read using the punctuation this time - you weren't asking if it was No. 2018. :o
I've no idea who owns it, sorry. *think

...I seem to remember constantly being told before exams to read the whole question before giving a perfect answer to a question that wasn't being asked - seems I never learnt.

Joe’s Steam Rally at Easter Compton Oct 10th Show Report.
Joe Nemeth and just a handful of others organised this event in just 6 weeks. The excellent weather added a bit of Basso for exhibitors and public, attendance this year was just under one thousand. As with many established events the traction/roller section was only a small part of the show as many sections were indoors, like the classic car section which felt more like a museum.
The two separate running railways had a good length of track i.e. 2ft gauge 100m track was travailed by Hunslet engines company’s Statfold and 10 ¼ gauge 200m by Robin Hood.
Dan Nemeth also had his own design made 2ft gauge Lister Diesel that runs on petrol! don’t ask me it’s what he said, First trial did not go to well as the magneto went faulty, but the comment was that’s ok I have a rebuilt one on the self! 5minutes later the express train was off down the track.

The Kemble flying club also had their display, it was quite amusing watching the acrobatics planes above the farm builds, my favourite was Concorde fly pass being close to Bristol.
The “Crossvile” buses gave ride locally around Easter Compton as there was quite a queue at times.
Military vehicle’s and Trike were also on display this year and will be the start of a much larger collection next year.

The excellent food supplied by the Canteen staff was excellent, food was waitress’ed all day to drivers by willing lady staff members; also a farm shop on site was a available.

By Midday the success of the show caused Joe to state that it will be a two day event next year with even more attractions for us all! Already exhibitors were phoning around asking for future interested parties for next year.

If you are interested in becoming an exhibitor or would like to help out for next years event please contact Joe (just search for Joe Nemeth Engineering on Google for contact details).

Final note - Thanks Joe and Dan for all the hard work and enjoyment you gave us all.
