Just from the grapevine, I thought the Speed Six and Twelve were further advanced, still it's great to see the tremendous progress. I can't wait to see them completed.

Looks like a great 'do'. Interesting to see how the autumnal colours of the leaves are more advanced than down 'south'.

I'm surprised the Speed Six and Twelve don't seem to have come on much since my grandfather sold it.
I know there has been a truly huge amount of work done to them both and Mike is trying to finish them both at the same time (and at the same pace) hence the middle body panel is missing on the Speed Six - possibly due to the boiler being mounted and fitted at some point? Either way they look fantastic and I can't wait for them to be finished. :) |
As far as I can tell both engines have been totally rebuilt, one boiler is complete the other requires tubes, the chassis are both pretty far advanced but the speed 12 is I think still short of the internals for the diffs. I was informed that they had diffs off of a diesel wagon BUT the engines turn different directions which would be a bit of a problem. There appear to be quite a lot of overhauled parts on the shelves ready to fit. In his defence Mike and his small team of helpers do have a lot to look after. At the event I was informed that mid week Goliaths crankshaft was out to look at a problem!

As far as I can remember, when my grandparents owned the Speed 6 it was at a very advanced stage, albeit without a boiler (was under way). The chassis was pretty much complete, engine didn't need a huge amount of work and neither did the bodywork, I can't remember about the diff though?
The diff does indeed work in the opposite direction to a similar Foden Diesel, or as I am led to believe by a few more knowledgeable sources. He has a truly stunning collection of engines, most desirable of any collection in my opinion and the man has a huge amount of work on his hands which is quite admirable especially as he does a vast amount himself! |
