Klondyke Summer Steam Party

One from this afternoon - very pleasant gathering, good selection of engines and nice folk. On the right is newcomer "Stortford Roll" now owned by Phill Bates.

Aveling 12450 on the right looks better without its awning I think. The wider than usual rear rolls made the awning look narrow....

Aveling & Porter 12450 is quite an interesting engine I think, piston valve but with lots of fittings from the later slide valve engines, the headstock in particular. One of the last piston valve engines. I have not seen it at a rally for nearly 10 years.

It is an odd one. Mostly an 6 ton A type but I bet it weighs a fair bit more. The headstock is actually quite a bit different to the surviving slide-valve 6 tonners (like Hairy Monster's below) if you compare them. Does anybody know any more about it?
