Thanks for making me feel old again Jim! The engines on that run from Bovington to Dorset were Fowler 17212, Fowler 17106 and Martin Fagg driving Boadicea on the back. Additionally Burrells Conqueror and Clinker (3996 and 3257) followed with the traction waggon for coal and 2 living vans. Jim Sarney actually broke with tradition and drove a fowler for the last leg (17212). Over 20 years ago now.. where the hell did that time go!

Better than photo's, there's video's, 2 or 3 of them. I have them at home here but i dont know where you'd find them now.

Hauled "Sad Sam" from Near Wareham to Tarrant Hinton by steam back in 1993. They had planned to go from swanage itself but because of the narrow roads through Corfe, the lack of overtaking opportunities and the fact it would take place on a busy summer weekend they started in a farm between wool and wareham instead. I've got one of the tank run from Bovington. I'll have to get my @arse into gear and see if I can magic it onto youtube.
Checking on the dates for this Jim - the tank from Bovington to Dorset was 1995, so I now feel 2 years younger than I did yesterday!

I just thought, The fields at Dorset are stubble for quite a lot of it, I wonder if the compaction of the ground causes the farm any issues? That said the use of the land and rent probably far outweighs the drop in productivity due to Ground Compaction.

Dave,

There is apparently compaction, particular in the playpen area and where the showman's engines stand. A certain amount of subsoiling has to be done in those areas I gather. Work is done by contractors as it is the responsibility of GDSF. Your comment re rent etc is probably accurate too!!
