We finally got our passes this week, have heard though that there is going to be a meeting on Friday night about whether it goes ahead?!?!?!?!?! Anybody else heard this???

Steam Scenes 14th August 2008 03:56 PM

Blimey, can you imagine. I don't want to think about that prospect.

I'm glad I don't have to make the call on that one...

jamiepreston 14th August 2008 05:59 PM

ive never heard about the meeting lets hope the rally does still go on

BUNGLE 14th August 2008 06:08 PM

Whats the 'rumoured' reason for it not going ahead ????

Bungle

tef 20 14th August 2008 07:07 PM

Apparently they have not been able to cut the corn because of the weather....it's only what we have heard but heard it from a couple of people....so has someone we know in Devon! I really hope too that it's not true....will obviosuly update if we hear any more...not trying to cause any trouble.

Don’t panic folks!

I drove past the site this morning to do a job on the farm next door and good progress is being made on the site.
Some of the large marquees have been erected in main show field which is grass, including the real ale tent:). The South car park, holding area and some of the camping areas are cut and the straw baled and cleared. The combine is in the Steam ploughing field today which as far as I can see only leaves the Oats to cut in the North car park.
So all is looking good for another great show, the forecast for the week end down here however is rather wet!!
As I mentioned in a previous post for those who don’t know it the site does drain very well; mud to dust in two hours!

We plan to move down over the bank holiday week end, let’s hope the weather has sorted it’s self out by then.

Tim

Why do you say Miniatures have moved - that looks to me like the same place as we were last year.

The farm I am on at the moment were combining yesterday, only problem the grain was too dry, so we had to leave the hose on it!

Cheers

Dave

Perhapes you should try to do some combining in Cornwall, the farm where i keep the engine has 400 acres that has been ready for cutting for the past 3 weeks, and none touched due to weather !!!!!!!!! Ground is so wet that the water now just runs off the top, dont know when they will be able to harvest as just cannot get on to the ground. Crop maybe a total loss yet. Today it has been raining for most of the day again adding to our problems.

jamiepreston 17th August 2008 04:44 PM

Just got back with my 2500 photos from the last 3 days and now spending all day sorting them out might pop back tonight for the evening but will be there tomo for my 4th day :D Some of my highlights so far have been the two maclarens pulling round the Alleys haulage load of Merchant navy class railway locomotive and when the burrells President and White rose of york also had a go not being outdone by the maclarens. Also 5 engines found a bigger load of the 200 ton Pickfords trailer and Rotinoff around and up the hill with the White Rose of York also on the back. The recreation was brilliant and really shows how the rally has changed and grown. Also the 13 Scenic i counted with my new favorite being Prince of Whales, also good to see Perseverance the second. Cant wait till tonight and tomo !!! I will post pictures if anyone wants to see anything i have mentioned.

Robin

steaming chappers 30th August 2008 02:47 PM

Sorry but have to question the 200tons bit ???

huffy 1st September 2008 11:46 AM

The nominal capacity of the trailer is 200 tons (The tank was lifted out of the trailer with the jib cranes of two of the army recovery trucks)

sparkright 1st September 2008 12:43 PM

Really good to see the Prince out after so many years, must be at least 15?!

jamiepreston 1st September 2008 02:24 PM

LOL, so its a '200ton trailer', not a trailer that weighs 200ton.
