There are a number of products available to gun restorers for re blueing gun barrels.

Have a poke around on ebay. Most come from the US.
I found one called black max that I have used to restore gun metal pocket watch cases.
Not sure how big you could push it.

Talk to the chaps at the Anson museum. They have bought some for the lagging on the Stotts mill engine.
