If you look at English engine design the smokebox certainly grew over time.

I'm really interested to see a British saw bench up close and how they work. They do the same job as a north American saw mill, but their design is a very different philosophy.

The saw mill crews at steam shows work very hard to keep things safe. No pratting about tolerated.
