What a lovely pair of rollers.
I see on 10005 both the feed pump and injector feeds are both fed into the boiler into one fitting on the top of the boiler, as opposed to two clacks one each side. Each pipe has its own non return valve, I assume in addition to a single non return in the top fitting? Is this Avelling or a later modification? http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/14...n/DSC_7947.jpg http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/14...n/DSC_7952.jpg |
It is definetely Aveling my E type was 10048 and had the same set up. When on the road with living van and trailer with 250 gallons of water and a couple of tons of coal and having stormed up the chiltern hills the tubes would leak when you got to the top and put the injector on. No the door had not been open when going up the hill it was the fact that the clack is directly above the firebox tube plate and the cooler water hitting it set the tubes leaking, eventually the problem was cured by fixing a stainless steel plate to the longitudinal stays which deflected the infeed water. Problem cured. I suspect there were a lot of complaints from customers who had purchased early piston valved Avelings and the system revised.

Hi, we supplied some machinery for their oil side of the business. I was lucky to get a private viewing of all their steam things. It's a wonderful place, Henry and Graham are very lucky chaps.
