Default West of England 2011

A very enjoyable time was had at Stithians with the 2011 WESES rally. The show was much improved with some tinkering from last years set up. The engine park was more spacious with the removal of low loaders that blighted last year. Another improvement was that the engines were going the "right way round" taking advantage of the incline past the main ring to open up a little. Better crowd control (i know the risk of more orange fencing!) could make this section better for drivers, safer for the public and more of a spectacle for the said public, allowing the engines to open up fully. Plenty to see and do if you are thinking of heading west in 2012. Well done to all concerned, a few more tweeks, you re nearly there! oh and bring back the real ale tent from last year. . . Doom Bar would be good!

Really great rally at Stithians this year, as ever a proper Cornish atmosphere, and busier than it has been the last few years.
It was a particular honour to finally get up close and personal with the stunning Cornish Maid, thanks Steve!!
Photos from Friday to follow soon.

I know exactly what a Garrett tractor looks like - seeing as it's written on the cab, it's a bit of a giveaway to even a non steam person.
What I wanted to know was which Garrett tractor - ably answered by Charlie - thanks.
Obviously newly out following rebuild.

Yes and long awaited too! I think its been under rebuild since late eighties. If you have a copy its the one on the front of Blenkinsops Steam Scenes vol 5.

Sorry i dont put engine numbers and details when i post pics takes too bloody long! and besides give those still learning the diff between Burrell and Fowler a chance to look em up! I had to years ago, all part of the fun!

I know the pic - it's on the Redruth by pass from memory, with a guy in shorts and sandals on if I'm not mistaken.

Without finding the book I believe there is a picture of Messrs Evans and Dyke in 'holiday' clothes, with the engine, posing as if to be using the AA roadside telephone.
