Default Driffield 2011

Overcast weather but dry on Saturday as the earlier wet weather put the dampers on the 100 ton pull event
Great show non the less with a fine collection of steam cars running and on display .
As always an excellent collection of steam exhibits to see and my first viewing of A&P Roller 4232 "Venture".
Some photo's can be found at :

This is one I've not seen before. New on the scene?

Here she is in Haywards scrap yard near Wrexham in 1967. Haywards had a few rollers at the time and sold them all on

Nice to see it kept its interesting canopy

The last & only time I saw Aveling 4232 was at Oakes Park rally in Sheffield in about 1976.
Whether it's been out since then & Driffield this year I don't know.Does it still belong
to the same owner ?

Default Haywards Scrapyard

Where was Haywards scrap yard at that time?
I assume not where it is now; as that site doesn't go that far back if I remember correctly.
The building in that picture looks a bit like the old foundry Rhostyllen? which they had some link with.
Do you have any other photo's?
Sorry to drift this thread so far from original topic.

Phil, not at the current site as you say, I just about remember the old yard before they moved. I will ask father who worked there for a bit cutting scrap up exactly where it was.

I do have other pictures, what are you interested in?

Default Haywards Scrapyard

I was brought up that area and still known to frequent.
Any old pictures of Wrexham scrapyards will bring back fond memories. Wierd or what? Can only think of Mc.Dermotts' and Jack Royals' off hand (can't really remember that; but some remnants of plant remained until relatively recently.).
I seem to remember a Haywards "outpost" in Acrefair/Trevor but no buildings like that there, just by the canal basin.
I don't recall any laid up steamers about the area in my time.

I believe she was actually new to Denbigh Corporation way back in 1898, registered to them in the 1921 with the 'new' licencing, passing to Denbishire County Council as fleet No 33 at some point.

I'm not sure when, most of Denbighsire County Council rollers were won in 1929/30 when the RDC's were abolished, but Denbighshire Corp was not an RDC

I also believe she was with an owner called Gray in Notts after Haywards.

I have Fowler 15489 CA 6327, Ex Wrexham RDC and Denbighshire CC (Fleet No 120), and grew up in Ruthin, hence the interest in Denbighshire rollers

Dave,

I'd hate to break it to you, but 100 ton pulls just aren't allowed...
