Not for an Aveling, but I machined the upright irons for my Fowler from solid 2 1/2" round bar - at a fraction of the price of getting a set forged. Could this be a viable option for the Aveling design?
Just a suggestion.

Cheers Carl.

Steve

I don't think I have pictures of making them- just of the finished uprights.

I will have a look.

Cheers Carl.

What year is the Aveling? post about 1925 (11xxx?) they were made from channel iron, about 13/4" section, much more rigid than the earlier forged irons.

My aveling 11200 is 1925 and has round bars. I've seen slightly earlier ones with the channel design though.
