Default Thursford Museum Founders Day 2008

Steam Scenes now features a selection of pictures taken at this event:Engines Appearing:Total Engines: 38
Total Pictures: 363

I wanted to get these up ASAP so I haven't check them all completely if you notice any mistaken identites I'd be very grateful if you could let me know. Also I have notice a couple of pics are sideways which I'll fix soon.

Obviously the pictures are a bit dark, I am going to run them through Photoshop this evening which should lighten them up a bit and improve them.

Thanks to Thursford for throwing it's doors completely open, and thanks to those who liaised with Thursford to organise this event. I suspect from how full the car park was it will be repeated sooner rather than later.

Thanks,
David

One engine which I am not too sure of the identity is this one:

The registration plate on the front and the rear reads NO 5898 however it was only when I got home and looked in the TER that NO 5898 belongs to F-Type roller 10324 also at Thursford:

I know this one is certainly 10324 because I got a picture of the plate.

Clearly the registration must have been swapped at some point, I think this first engine is 14008 which is the only late compound Aveling at Thursford.

If anybody knows differently or can shed any further light please let me know.

David.

Default Thursford Founder's Day

Thanks David.Great Photos despite poor light conditions, we must have passed each other as we photographed? Your information hopefully solves the gap in my notes re 14008 and 10324.

Brillant David thanks for taking the time and the trouble to do this. Looks like it was a fantastic day with lots of great engines. Hopefully some of them will see the light of day again in the near future.

Thanks all for comments.

Another question!

Which engine is this?

The engine had the number 10003 chalked on the roll, according to the TER that is an M-Type compound convertible. However, if you look closely at the forks it has PW 623, which is again an M-Type convertible 10341.

I though it was an interesting engine, the shape of the valve covers is unusual, looks like a very early piston valve design, so 10003 would make more sense.

Any thoughts?

David.

Default 10003

David, The guy who came with me to the open day read 10003 off of a plate on the right hand side of the engine - I didn't see the plate myself but we took it as read on the day.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that, clearly the forks have been switched at some point.

David.
