Even when you're driving a car.A few years back I was passing a horse, I was well over the right hand side of the road, when suddenly the horse literally jumped sideways, smacking the riders leg against the roof/top of door of my Jag, turned out that it had been spooked by, of all things, a plastic bag in the hedgerow luckily, the girl wasn't hurt, but it left us both in an 'uncomfortable' position for a while.
