for me first time at this rally.
Well spaced out, easy going and and plenty of engine movement .
A fine show and my thanks to the organisers and those who helped to make it a great day out.

Default Stoke Row 2018

I would echo that sentiment, I am sure there was great potential for 'rally photography' in the play pen, but we couldn't stay later in the afternoon on Sunday.

Attendance was fair, but it deserved more especially as it's charity orientated.

Thanks to Richard Hazell and all the other owners exhibiting.

Fowler T3 (10)
From the programme.
Owned by R Hazell..Exported to Java when new, exported back to Britain and used by the mechanical tar spraying and grouting cold.Used until 1966.This is the first rally it has been seen in steam since 1966.it is in it's original working condition...…………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………
Who brought the engine back from Java and where has the roller been since 1966?
I was told that the engine will not be re-painted and will be kept in it's original condition.

Default Fowler 17950

According to notes posted with the engine, it was sold to the government of the Dutch East Indies but was very soon returned to the manufacturers.

At the time it was exported, 1930, the sugar industry in Java (the main export earner) was peaking and no doubt government revenues were good.

However, within a few years it was in deep depression and no doubt money was in short supply

I don't know how many Fowlers went to Java, but one survives 'preserved' in poor condition at Sumberharjo sugar mill, its identity is not known:

http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...avarollers.htm

The driver was quite clear that it would not be repainted and would be left in its current condition which is essentially as it finished its working days, save for various repairs needed to get it running safely.

Quite rightly so, there are few engines out there like this.

This engine has been altered quite a bit in preservation. Originally had steam power steering, and the steered roll was at the rear.
