Does that have a coil spring inside the casting? I can't see a spring! I thought Wallis's used leaf springs across the top of the axle

I would not lose too much sleep over a sprung front , you could find that the front end danced about , especially with a single . I reckon that it was for this reason that front springs tended to be very stiff , so as only to move under a shock load . If you look at the paint on front leaf springson a line of engines , many of them appear not to have deflected in years .

The photo is the standard unsprung version, "Wheatsheaf" has the sprung version fitted.

I recognize that front end!
The front end of that Wallis used to bounce and go all over the place, but since I have bored and bushed the wheels and took the wear out of the perch bracket it is like a different machine.
Along with the gears the most beneficial work done.
Now rock steady at about 8MPH if you need to.

I do have the drawings for this perch and front axle if required.

Vince.
