Default Long SHop Museum Spring Steam Up.

Long Shop Museum Spring Steam-Up

Spring may feel like it’s been a long time coming but the Long Shop Museum in Leiston will reopen in style by launching the 2018 season on Sunday 1st April with a fantastic steam and activity day from 10am-4pm.

This will be heralded by a grand parade from the Co-op car park departing at 11am en route to the museum where a host of attractions are in store.

Once the world’s first purpose built workshop for assembly line production, the museum contains a magnificent array of machines and many of these will be demonstrated in all their working glory at our Spring Steam Up event, with rides aplenty!

There will be large and small engines in steam, including our very own Aveling & Porter shunting engine “Sirapite” and Consuelo Allen and not forgetting our unique Garrett Suffolk Punch Steam Tractor “The Joker”. The last one of her kind.

We are also excited to announce that we will be having a visit from the Garrett Showman’s Tractor called “The Mighty Atom”, it is 100 years old this year and this will be the first visit back to the Garrett Works since being dispatched in 1918. And also a couple of local visiting engines.

Tea, coffee and scrumptious home made cakes available throughout the day! Sights to behold include displays from local model engineering societies and classic cars in the post office square, dancing from the Pretty Grim, Welsh Border Morris Dancers, as well as local heritage attractions coming along to demonstrate just what Suffolk has to offer. There will be hands-on activities for children and more so do keep an eye on our website for further details.

No need to book – just come along! The admission price for this event will be £8 for adults, £6 for young people (aged 16-21) and £4 for children.

From Tuesday 20 March the Museum will be open 7 days per week throughout the school holidays –10-5 Mon-Sat, 11-3 on Sundays – and there will be a number of activities around the museum during the school break including an Easter Stamper trail with a chocolaty treat at the end! Please check the Museum website or phone the Museum (01728 832189) for updated details. www.longshopmuseum.co.uk.
