Default More East Anglian action.

Just to show that the EATES road run wasn't the only steam activity on East Anglian roads last weekend, here's A&P GND Tractor 'Margaret' on her way to a steam 'Do' at Whitwell & Reepham station in Norfolk.

(It's not really all as flat as this round here.)

Here's a picture of the same engine in the 1950s. Thanks to Andy Smith (of the RLS) whose family owned her at the time and whose mother was Margaret.

Bill.

I've just been told by Andy Smith that the photo was probably 1960s rather than 50s. I'll ask him if he knows where it was taken.

With apologies to Andy Smith, I got the ownership of Margaret wrong in that lovely old picture. Andy's reply to 'where?':-
I don’t know to be honest but as she was in Taylor Bros ownership and with Georg Swann at the controls I would say around the Wimbish / Thaxted? Saffron Walden area as for longer journeys she was precariously carried on a small four wheeled lorry (I hate to think how they loaded and unloaded on the rally field!).
To hide my embarrassment, here's another picture, obviously taken on the same occasion.

Also one of Margaret shrunk to 3 ins scale, having won a well deserved major award at the Model Engineering Exhibition.

I've seen pictures of Margaret on the lorry, back tyres 'flat at the bottom' and mudguards almost on the tyres, I think she was loaded up using a couple of planks. Nice to see the photo of Les (Andy's Dad) with the 3".
