Default Shabbington Rally.

All somewhat negative I'm afraid, but this event seems to be on the way down. Only 11 steam entries this year, and of them only 7 actually turned up, one being a 9" to 1ft Foden wagon. Public attendance rather thin, too.

It is unfortunate that Shabbington rally is on the same weekend as South Cerney, as quite a few exhibitors of full size steam engines have been tempted away by promises of more appearance money. This is a great pity as before there was a clash of dates Shabbington was an excellent rally. I was at Shabbington this weekend and I was surprised at the amount of paying public turned that out in the extremely hot weather!

Default Shabbington vs South Cerney

I think this is unfair. I don't know the inside story or what kind of incentives were offered but...

There's a list of engines attending South Cerney on my website:
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexsc18.htm

Most of the engines have been seen here or at Welland in the recent past.

The number of engines which came from the Shabbington 'catchment area' is actually quite small.

Arguably, based on where I have seen them, these include the Hazell engines, Foden Emily, the two C& S, the Marshall roller and Britannia, and Fowler 'My Delight'.

Of these the Hazell Sentinel has attended South Cerney in the past and I doubt Mr. Hazell is greatly in need of the money judging from the size of his collection.

It's not as if these are the only other engines in Bucks that attend rallies.

Does it matter how many engines are their?
I have attended events with one engine also events with many.
Surely the point of our interest/hobby is to display and have fun with steam !!
