Default Cornishman, Cornish Maid & ...a Cornish Beam - Boconnoc Steam Fair 24th to 26th July

Good evening all.

With the Boconnoc Steam Fair not too far away, the Liskeard Steam & Vintage Club are delighted to announce the spectacular coming together of 2909 Cornishman & 3816 Cornishmaid at this year's show. What's more - they'll be hauling the 17 ton Cornish Beam recently displayed at Camborne Trevithick day around the site.

2909 'Cornishman', a Burrell SCC was built in 1907 and has been owned by Robert Hobbs since 2006, extensive mechanical restorations and reassembly have been carried out since.

3816 'Cornish Maid', a Burrell DCC - owned by the Syms family of St Columb Major was built in 1919 as a special order - only one of its kind ever being built. The engine has an extra long boiler, useful for the fairground and Cornish mine boilers that she once hauled. Both engines were delivered new to the Parsons family of St Columb with the Cornish Maid being built especially. Their working tasks involved threshing, wood sawing and haulage of some of Anderton & Rowlands fairground equipment,

The Cornish beam, owned by the Goddards of Wiltshire, belongs to a James Simpson Woolf Compound engine and weighs in at over 17 tons.

To celebrate 'all things Cornwall', the beam and two engines will be a sight to behold - especially within the glorious backdrop of the Boconnoc Estate. We are expecting in excess of 50 engines this year to include Burrell 2351 'Ephraim' and the oldest steam roller in steam, Wymeswold.

The committee wish to express their thanks to Robin Daniel, Kevin Bragg, the Goddard family and the two engine owners for their help in organising this special not-to-be-missed occasion.

On behalf of the committee I hope we can look forward to welcoming many of you to our show, bring on the fun!

Does anyone know when these 2 engines were last together?

It will certainly be great to re-unite them again.

A wonderful sight.....nearly as exciting as when Robin collected the beam from our yard !

Have fun, collect some funds for your Society and charities and look after our beam. I do need it back since we will be installing it in position on our beam engine in the near future !

Best wishes.

We will look after the beam, dont worry !! I have some very old pics of "CornishMaid" with a beam in tow on her own, but for this event im sure it will all look great with the two engines that worked together, pulling your beam through the narrow private lanes of the Boconnoc estate.
