Since there were no requests I will just have to share what tickled my fancy.
Apologies if I include something from a past thread but I am old and tis hard to recall exactly what I pointed my camera at last time. Each rally Goldsmith tries to have a theme. This time the theme was the products of the Caterpiller Co. I won't fill this thread with pictures of all the examples that turned up but a few are worthy of mention. My favorite was this beastie. A real days work to get it to do some miles. Here is the history and a few close ups. A couple of others that caught my eye were these two. No doubt there will be a full report in another place where such things are higher on their list. |

My favorite steam toy of the weekend was this great little machine from the US.
I especially liked the spacious accommodation for the crew. It would at least ensure they completed their journey as quickly as was possible. One way to get productivity up. |

There were not many models this time. I think the weather put them off.
It rained and it showered then after a brief bit of sun it hailed yet I still managed to get sun burnt. Serves me right for not wearing my hat. One bloke had the right idea. Bring your model on a big trailer and when you are ready put the car on the trailer and it becomes the load for your model. Of course you need a good size model to do that but I think he had it covered. |

Goldsmith has a reasonable size parade ground and the middle is usually used to demonstrate ploughing with a pair of ploughing engines. This year they decided to let the Catapiller people have a play and gave permission for them to dig a bit of a hole as long as they filled it in again at rally's end.
When last I looked the boys were sure getting into the spirit of things. Something small and different to finish off. A nice little steam turbine. More next time. |
