HERBERT No 10 VERTICAL MILLING MACHINE
This is an old but solid machine that was made to last. It has been in model engineer’s hands for many years and has many more years use left in it.
This mill has been in a model engineering workshop since 1968 and has been instrumental in building three 4” scale traction engines plus many other projects.
I’am now building an 6” scale model traction engine and require a larger capacity milling machine
It will go through the average doorway with the bed removed (an easy job).
The machine weighs approximately 900 kg.

At present the motor and bed is off the machine, as I have just moved it out of my workshop I will replace it if required but as stated it makes moving it a lot easier It is on a sturdy pallet so could be moved by a pallet company

THE BUYER MUST ARRANGE HIS OWN TRANSPORT
I can lift the machine onto a trailer no more than 18" high

The old 440-volt motor has no innards and is only used to carry the drive shaft, which is connected to a One-horse 240 volt single-phase motor.
It has a 240-volt single-phase motor on the longitudinal travel. It can also be rapid traversed by means of a geared manual hand wheel
The bed measures 31” x91/2” it has a travel of 14” in the
X- axis by means of a hand wheel, which has a large dial, graduated in 0.001”
And 6” in the Y-axis, which also has a hand wheel and graduated dial.
The table has one T slot and moves up and down 7” the cutter may also be raised and lowered 3” both operations by hand wheels, which have graduated dials in 0.001”.

NOW FOR SOME OF THE BAD POINTS.
It uses a Herbert taper, which can be hard to come by (But it comes with all you need to carry out most milling tasks).
There is some backlash and wear to the slides (But it is still able to produce accurate work).
There is a few cutter marks on the bed (but will not affect the use of the machine).
Due to the motor running from pulleys the speed shown on dial is down by a few R.P.M.

The machine will come with the following
A full clamping kit.
A two Morse taper keyless drill chuck.
Two collet chucks with, Imperial and metric collets.
A two Morse taper holder for drills and reamers.
A 3” Diameter slab mill that has four tungsten carbide tips.
Two boring tools, one of which you can screw in bars of different diameter to cover bores from Ύ” up.
A side and face cutter holder
A good selection of cutting tools.

it will have to go on Ebay next week as I need the room
