South Canterbury Rally
A very successful rally was held at Seadown 24 & 25 March. As well as featuring steam, it celebrated 110 years of International Harvester and there was a good turn out of stationary engines. Eleven engines attended and 5 models. The heavy haulage trailer was filled with gravel so was deceptively heavy. I managed to get a few photos in between running the Prony brake. The Hornsby portable was made in 1870.

Love the Hornsby portable.

Is that Dan Crossen steering the Winter's Blue Burrell?
|
Yes it is. John gave Daniel a bit of a thrill by towing the heavy haulage trailer in top gear and winding up to quite a speed. The compound sounded like a single when he took off.

do you know the works No of Burrell on photo 4 ???.

Is the push bike real ? or an April 1st joke ?

It is definitely real and does run. Building it has been a process of trial and error for Owen. He had to reduce the gear ratio and is currently working on modifying the feed pump drive. It will be driven off an eccentric on the back axle, the crankshaft speed was a bit quick where it originally was mounted. He made the patterns for the castings himself and then made a furnace to melt down the metal he used to pour them. The idea for it came from an old magazine he had.
