Newcomer on the pub run

There was a newcomer on the annual autumn lunch time run to 'The Railway' at Wymondham in mid Norfolk this year. Marshall no. 77973 'Aurora' has recently arrived in the county, after spending her life so far in Scotland. To the casual observer she looks like a road loco, but apparently Marshalls never used that description, referring to her as a 5 HP Compound 'S' Traction Engine.

She was stopped by a wedding party en route and asked to pose for the photos.

Negotiating the outskirts of Wymondham.

Made it, in company with established locals; 'Monarch' a Foden Road Loco and 'Margaret' an Aveling GND Tractor.

As ever, thanks for the entertainment.

buggeroff 24th September 2017 09:32 AM

who owns this now ?

The Idle Fellow 24th September 2017 10:40 AM

Proff: yes again - according to the new owner.
Buggeroff: I'll ask the new owner if it's PK to identify him.

Don't know about PK - but it's OK to tell you that the new owners of 'Aurora' are Steve Barraclough and his partner Jeni Arnold. It is now based at Steve's Expansion Engines Ltd works at Great Ellingham.
Knowing them, we can expect to see the engine out and about quite a bit, starting next weekend (NTET Steam It Day) when they are coming to Model Engineers' Day at the Forncett Steam Museum.

According to my notes (always fallible of course) it is somewhat unique being the only one ever erected to that specification.

There may be a bit about this engine in next month's Old Glory.
