Ploughing
It annoys the hell out of me when I find out about an event I could have attended after it has happened!!! *teeth :(
As it has so far not been mentioned here on T-T, I am posting this so that members know about this "do" a week or so in advance. The 2018 British National Ploughing Championships takes place over the weekend of 13th and 14th October. It is being held at Austrey in North Warwickshire. Among much going on over the weekend, it includes The Great Steam Challenge. There is more information here: http://www.ploughmen.co.uk/events/br...pionships-copy Fingers crossed the weather is good - I am looking forward to visiting the event as it is not far from where I live. SPC Great Challenge 2018
This is definitely another not-to-be missed event for those who love to see steam ploughing, the best since the Crockey Hill, York event in 2016.
There are 11 pairs of cable engines expected (including Fowler-Burrell 1050) plus a demonstration of roundabout ploughing by Richard Vernon with his unique Howard engine. For a video of the latter see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyXgz0x-LWc More details here: http://www.steamploughclub.org.uk/challenge2018.html (1 pair has since dropped out.) |
I think there is also some local agricultural engines attending that don't live to far away too
|
Correct, but I don't have confirmed details, up to four in all as I understand, probably plus the very appropriate Foden Agritractor.
|
See you all there, can't wait.
|
we'll be taking the agritractor down (its already there actually) for a spot of ploughing too

A few very good pictures of this event here : https://www.expressandstar.com/news/...championships/

Steam Plough Club Great Challenge 2018
My report from Saturday is now available:
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexgc18.htm I hope those who were present on Sunday all lived to tell the tale. |
Last three engines have just left the quagmire in convoy.
A big well done to the SPC and all involved, a great Saturday and a difficult Sunday overcome with common sense and teamwork. Looking forward to the next one! |
A stunning event again.
Thanks to all the crews. |
