Tewkesbury Mop Fair

No steam this year, but a good afternoon spent snapping images prior to opening.

Plenty of more images to follow, but here are a few of the more 'different' images taken.

As Matt says, no steam at Tewkesbury these days. Just a modern fair built up along the main street.

How different from the days when Fowler SRL 'Supreme' regularly appeared at the Mop when in the ownership of the Welsh showmen A. Deakin and Sons.

Asked a bloke on TFS Stand about taking an engine next year. Wasn't in the slightest bit interested. Shame.

It was a good day out though.

Over the years Burrell showmans Nancy, Quo Vadis and Masterpiece, as well as the mentioned Fowler showmans Supreme have attended the Tewkesbury Mop fair, which is held on the 9th and 10th October every year, regardless of the day (although i believe there has been an exception to this rule at some point)
This year James Danter has taken over organising of the fair from the western section of the Showmans Guild of Great Britain, and is hoping to make changes and improvements.
Steve Perry (Author of 'Danters Travels', Tewkesbury Fair Society Chairman, and honorary Guild member) has told me that they would like to bring Steam back into the fair, and is trying to work with James to make this happen, as its been over 10 years since the last time.
Obviously costs are a significant factor, even for coal alone..
In the meantime if anyone wants to contact Steve Perry (engine owner etc), please let me know and i will send you his number to discuss it, as it may well help to take it one step closer.
