Fowell to Bressingham
I wasn't sure whether to add these to Stuart Hines' post or start again - rightly or not, I've decided on the latter.
It rained on and off all day. That is my excuse for some pictures being not too good, but they record 108's first real outing for many years. A lovely looking and running machine, as someone said, "A proper threshing engine". There's no doubt who made the engine or when, but there's no maker's plate giving the engine number. However the motion parts are clearly stamped '108'. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44770 I found the team parked opposite 'The Bull' at Bacton. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44771 About to transfer water from the IBC on the trailer. Incidentally, a young couple coming out of the pub were heard to say, "What a lovely smell"! http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44772 Drizzle turned to real rain after a few miles, so the steersman was lent a better rain coat. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44774 Soon turned back to drizzle though. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44773 Joining the main road near Bacton railway bridge. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44775 Arriving in Rickinghall. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44776 Stopped in Rickinghall for a crew change. A gang of boys on bicycles soon gathered and provided an escort out of the village. Something unchanged since the 19th century? http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44777 Arriving in Redgrave. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44778 Leaving Redgrave. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44779 Turning onto Lopham Fen road. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44780 Lopham Fen. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44781 Stopped for tea and chat at Pooley Street. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44782 Nearly there. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44783 Made it, in the yard at Bressingham. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=44784 I hope Stuart does many more happy miles on 'Percy' - named after his Grandfather - but with less rain! Thank you Bill, it was good to have a catch up yesterday and thank you for the record of the first real outing with 108.
Cheers Stuart |
