Enfield Pageant of Motoring 26 May.
Enfield Pageant of Motoring used to be a good mixed rally but alas this Year there was only two Steam items and two Commercials amongst the many 1960s cars on the Sunday.
I am posting the photo of the Aveling as it does not travel out very far and most TTers will not have seen it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...man/roller.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...rman/foden.jpg |
An excellent restoration on this early S type Bedford.

Used to live near this show, the steam entry has dropped off year by year, it's more like an expensive car boot sale with some nice motors on the side now. Gave it up about ten years ago.

Enfield used to be a lovely show but as said the Steamers have dropped off in large amounts over the years and sadly this is mainly due to the site being within the LEZ (Low Emission Zone)
Many owners of steam engines transport their engines around with older vehicles which do not comply so don't go to avoid the penalties imposed. One would have thought that exemptions could be made but alas not! |
I steamed my old Aveling roller from Billericay to Enfield severel times but as the show got worse and the traffic got heavier and less patient I thought bugger this!
At one time the Enfield pageant was a great show with some really good autojumble stalls and lots of engines but sadly its now rather poor. Jim |
I went on the Monday and clearly half the AUTO jumble stalls had left leaving just the boot sale rubbish.
I go 'cos I live close, and used to camp overnight but its only worth one day now. There was some major trouble a few years ago when a catering unit got torched. After that the beer tent and evening entertainment got the chop, so its a bit of a ghost town once the public have gone. |

Made the best coal-fired chips in any show;);) |
Sadly that is the one and still very much missed!

I think the original Saunders chip wagon was a pre-war Commer Bus .
