International Steam at Large 2017
Weather permitting, we continue to visit steam rallies in 2017, some familiar, some unfamiliar.
This weekend, for example, we were in Leicester on Saturday. Please check this link weekly for updates: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/.../ukindex17.htm |
Heddington and Stockley Steam Rally and Country Fair 2017
This is a delightful small event which doesn't seem to have a high profile...

Nice to see a couple shots of the 2nd?? ruston replica out, I believe it was from the batch of 3 started many years back ?

Ruston Proctor at Heddington
That is what the owner, James Buchan told me.

Hollowell 2017 Sunday
A pleasant day with a large crowd (in every sense) and plenty of sunshine..

Birdingbury Steam and Country Show
On our way home from Rempstone and Papplewick we stopped off at the final Birdingbury Steam and Country Show just off the Fosse Way. It's always been a small village event and with the sad passing of the prime move Bob Munro, it seems the rest of the team felt his boots were too big to fill.
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/.../ukindex17.htm Rempstone will take a lot longer to edit up, it was a great show and blessed with much better weather than 2016. |
Rempstone Steam and Country Show 2017
We attended on the Saturday along with many other satisfied visitors.

Weeting Rally 2017
Marvellous event, shame about the weather which was almost totally overcast save for late Friday afternoon and early Sunday before the rally was officially open. The pictures do not reflect how grim was the light:
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexwt17.htm Reminder, all the reports are linked from here: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/.../ukindex17.htm Please tell me about any mistakes. |
Marcle 2017
|
Somerset Steam and Country Show 2017
Unfortunately, the show didn't get the weather to reward the effort made to improve the show compared to when we last went in 2015.
Not many shows can manage 7 ploughing engines and 3 pairs at work. Plus two direct ploughing engines although these were not active on the Sunday. http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexlp17.htm |
Welland Steam and Country Rally 2017
Unfortunately on the Friday and Saturday the weather for photography was as bad as the show was good.
On Sunday, the results would have been much better between the showers but I had other important business to conduct in Stroud's Golden Valley: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...ukindexw17.htm It's been a very busy weekend, there will be the odd mistake, please let me know as usual. |
Rob, you must have been stood next to me when the Foden side tipped. Same picture.

Welland 2017
As they say, "Great minds think alike."

Whitby Traction Engine Rally 2017
Location, location, location...
Mostly familiar faces but in a new setting. http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexwb17.htm As always, thrown together quickly after a long distance weekend away, apologies for the inevitable mistakes. |
Cromford Traction Engine Rally 2017
On our way back from Yorkshire we had an hour at the Cromford Rally. Unfortunately, the weather was very overcast.

Astle Park Rally 2017
We visited on the Saturday, the afternoon weather was excellent and I was well satisfied with my photographic efforts.
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexap17.htm There was no programme and if there were any engines hidden away from the others, I will have missed them. Any errors or omissions, please let me know. Thanks. |
Cornish Steam and Country Fair 2017
A successful visit to Cornwall:
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexwe17.htm Alas the Sunday was likely to be as bad for photography as Saturday was good and we came home early. There was meant to be a simultaneous YouTube upload, but my desktop computer has crashed and while this report was compiled on my laptop, it cannot deal with video. |
Onslow Park 2017
We spent two days here and eventually the sun came out and stayed out.
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...ukindexs17.htm I was mainly here to get some video of the working areas which will hopefully appear in the next few days, but along the way managed to get the usual crop of good record shots. |
Another super set of photo's thanks for posting!
|
Harewood Steam Fair 2017
We've been up north again for the weekend.
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexhh17.htm Quite a few familiar faces as expected, but pleased to see a couple of Leeds regulars that don't travel too far. |
Trotter Lives!!!
The unique 1933 Arthur Trotter steam roller is back in steam. Its first public appearance was at the Speech House Vintage Show on 10th September 2017.
It should also appear at the Perrygrove Vintage Working Weekend on 16th and 17th September 2017 just a short distance from its birthplace. |
Grand Henham Steam Rally 2017
We had a long weekend visiting friends in East Anglia.
On the Saturday we went to a rather wet Henham event which temporarily put my camera out of action. The sun did though come out briefly in the afternoon when the engines were sitting around. http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...rollers296.htm We also popped into the Long Shop Museum, which is simply excellent: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...rollers297.htm The engines here rarely go outside East Anglia which made it particularly interesting, albeit 75% we had seen at Strumpshaw and Weeting. I've now got to wade through Friday's pictures at Old Warden, we had but a couple of hours sunshine in the morning to make hay. I gather the sun was in short supply thereafter until much, much later in the weekend. |
Old Warden 2017
152 road engines (not including steam cars, fire engine, bitzas, fairground engine etc) present on the Friday, it seems 3 more arrived for the weekend. 158 in the programme, 11 no shows with 5 'not in programme'.
http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/...kindexow17.htm Definitely this was the best of the three days for photography, but I reckon there was about minute of sunshine for each engine present, but not all were off their loaders before the cloud (and rain) arrived. |
